![]() | LARIMAR- (blue) The beautiful "Gemstone of the Caribbean". a ocean-blue colored bariant of the mineral pectolite. It was formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity and now is found only in one remote mine on the Island of Hispaniola, Dominican Republic. It was discovered by a peace Corp. Volunteer in 1975. The name originated by Miguel Mendez, the first commercial supplier, who named the gem after his daughter "Lari" and "Mar" the Spanish word for the sea. The stones color ranges from a deep sky blue to the azure bluish green of the Caribbean. Its characteristic colors and variations of texture make it a very unique and interesting gemstone. Larimar stimulates us to take proper control of our lives. It dissolves sacrificial behavior and philosophies that encourage suffering.
