How to Cleanse, Clear & Charge Gemstones
Quartz crystals are by their very nature energy tools. In addition to transmitting, focusing and amplifying energies, crystals receive and store energy in many forms: Magnetic energy, light energy, emotions, thought forms, sound waves, etc. Crystals are purely “non-discriminating” energy tools: they do not make judgements or discriminate between good or bad, positive or negative wanted or unwanted energies. Therefore your crystal will hold whatever energy you are consciously or unconsciously projecting into it. If you are releasing emotions or thought patterns that you have outgrown, if you are experiencing imbalance in you life, or if you are going through intense emotions, your crystal will receive and store these energies and you will in effect be caring them around with you in amplified and concentrated form. The same is true of the influences of others on your crystals: strong emotions or thought forms of others can be absorbed into you crystals. It is therefore essential to clear you crystals of unwanted energy or influences regularly. To maintain your crystal as the perfect energy tool that it is , it is important to cleanse the outside surface of he crystal often of dust, oil, fingerprints, etc. that can interfere with the surface ionic charge. In addition to the surface cleansing the basic energy properties of crystals need to be cleared. When the crystal has been cleansed and cleared he energy must be charged. Specific suggestions for cleansing, clearing and charging crystals follow. Crystals worn on the body must be cleansed more regularly.. CLEANSING- Hole the crystal point down under running water to release energy and to cleanse the surface of and residue. Use natural soaps to wash your stone, not chemical detergents or glass cleaners. Do not use excessively hot water; crystals are fragile and will often crack along internal stress or fracture lines if very hot water is used. Cleanse crystals before and after each healing use. CLEARING: Methods of clearing. FIRE ELEMENT- Solarize your crystals: place in direct sunlight for several hours. Amethyst, however, may fade if left out for more than a few moments. Not all gemstones like sunlight. Here are a list of a few they may be damaged in sunlight.... -Ametrine, may change color -Apatite, pink variety fades -Aquamarine- becomes paler -Aventurine- translucent types loose their color -Beryl- brown or orange types may change to pale pink -Celestite- fades in direct sunlight -Chrysoprase- becomes paler -Citrine- may change color -Fluorite- green and purple types change color -Kunzite- becomes pale or loses color -Rose Quartz- becomes paler -Smokey Quartz- becomes paler Flame your crystals by passing your crystals several times over a candle flame. Breath in considered to be the fire element. There are several methods for clearing crystals by pranic breathing techniques. These are better taught in person. EARTH ELEMENT- Solid matter represents the earth element: sand , earth, rocks, gravel, etc. For a heavy cleansing, you can bury your crystals in earth or sand to dissipate unwanted energies. You can build a cairn, or rock pit for clearing crystals; dig a hole, line it with rocks, place you crystals in it and gently cover them with rocks and earth. You can leave your crystals directly on the earth while solarizing them” all unwanted energy is released back to the earth and transmitted. If you have a garden, leave your crystals in the garden: both the crystals and your plants will benefit form the exchange of energy. If you live in the city, you can bring back soil with you form the country and keep it in an earthen pot or wood box for clearing your stones. You can sand box your crystals by placing them in a wooden box filled with sand. Cover the box and leave in a dark place for one month. Preferably form full moon to full moon. This is a very deep cleansing method. A word on salt: salt or salt water is often recommended for clearing crystals for two reasons. 1. Salt represents the earth element and 2 it is reputed to draw out unwanted energy. While salt may be used in this way for some stones, it is not good to use for quartz. Salt has two functions One is to pull or draw out and the other is to encase and preserve. Due to a molecule affinity between salt and quart, it has the opposite effect of clearing the crystal; it actually traps the energy within the molecules of the crystal. One exception is sea or ocean water: due to the combination of elements and pranic energy at the ocean. (Earth—salt and sand: fire- the sun: water) you can take your crystals to the ocean for clearing. Remember, though that the sun and salt may bleach out your amethyst and especially fluorite. If you have been using salt on your crystals, you can clear them by using spring water with a dash of lemon juice, vodka, organic vinegar or Pennyroyal Flower essence. However, Pennyroyal releases a lot of negative energy it can leave spots on the crystal. WATER ELEMENT- Soak your crystals daily in natural spring water: the negative ions in the spring water will clear the stones. You can soak the crystals from two hours to overnight in an earthen or glass bowl (clear, blue or violet glass is the best). If you soak the crystals longer, charge the water at least once a day. Clear your crystals in a brook or stream, hold the crystals with the point facing downstream. Take advantage of any rapidly moving, clear body of water to ionize, clear and charge your stones. SOUND - All crystals clear at 128 and 512 cycles per second. You can use tuning forks or an otolith (similar to a tuning fork) in this range to clear crystals. Simply strike the fork against a hard surface, than hold the base to the surface of the crystal” the sound waves created will clear the stone. Toning and chanting will clear crystals. Quartz specifically tones to the seed sound “am” and all stones will clear to the universal “om”. You can however, use any tone or mantra that feels right to you. Hold the crystal in your left hand and place your right hand over your left. Hold the crystal on your heart center and chant or tone from your heart. When you can feel the vibration in you hands, heart and spine, the stone is cleared. If you do not feel that your crystal is clear, you can clear crystals in the following order: 1) Earth, 2) Water 3) Fire 4) Sound You may also wish to combine methods: water and earth, fire and water, etc. You can create your own ritual cleansing by placing your crystals on sand or earth in the sunshine and pouring spring water over it. OTHER SUGGESTED METHODS OF CLEARING CRYSTALS: FLOWER ESSENCE- Since flower essence work on the same vibratory principles as gemstones, they are often effective in clearing quartz crystals. Pennyroyal, from Pegasus Products in Boulder, Colorado is specifically used for clearing quartz as well as for psychic protection. Rescue Remedy, a combination of Flower Essence prepared by Bach is used as an “emergency” remedy for any combination of strong emotions and works well for clearing heavy emotions from crystals. The Bach Flower Essence, Crab Apple, is used to cleanse and release negative energy, emotions and toxins and works similarly with quartz. To use a flower essence, place 4 to 7 drops of the essence into the spring water in which you are soaking your crystals. SMUDGING - Burning natural herbs, grasses and incense and using the smoke to smudge stones will purify them and release negative energy. You can use sage (whole leaf) sweetgrass, cedar, incense, sandalwood, Frankincense or myrrh for smudging crystals and your work environment. Any grass or herb that is used for purification purposes may be used for smudging crystals. They sell smudge sticks as well, however, after smudging shake them in sand. Western sage is the best to clear negativity, cedar bring in the positive. To smudge a room, go to the Four Corners and wave the smoke from the ceiling to the floor. TAPE DEMAGNETIZER- If you wish to remove all programming from a crystal and return it to its original inherent energy pattern, you may run a bulk tape demagnetizer just over the surface of the crystal (not touching the crystal) This is an excellent method for clearing crystals, which you have just received or purchased, or which come from a questionable source. It will , however, remove all personal programming you have put into the crystal, so should be used only when you want all extraneous energies scrambled or erased. CHARGING YOUR CRYSTALS To receive the most benefit from your crystals, it is essential to regularly charge or energize your crystals. Some methods of clearing descried about will automatically charge our crystals, but it ideal to cultivate the habit of frequently or consciously charging your crystals. Or preferred method is to place the crystals outside or on a windowsill, preferably at either a full moon or a new moon for both a night and day exposure. Full sun exposure should be minimized for light sensitive crystals like fluorite, calcite, and amethyst – indirect daylight works just as well. SUGGESTED METHODS FOR CHARGING QUARTZ:. SOLARIZING: The sun’s ray do not only dissipate unwanted energy , they automatically recharge quartz crystals. Do remember, however, that the sun can fade amethyst, fluorite, and colored calcites if left out to long. Running water: the ionization effect of rapidly moving water will boost the energy of your crystals as well as clear them. PYRAMIDS: Once your crystal is cleared, place it under a copper, silver, gold, or stained glass pyramid to charge and fine tune the energy of the stone.
